Baisong Zhang got a Bachelor’s degree and a Master’s degree from School of Engineering of Nanjing University of Science and Technology. He previously worked as an Engineer at SMIC, where he was responsible for semiconductor process optimization and failure analysis. He has published several papers and was awarded 2 patents.  Early in 2023, he joined Westlake Institute for Optoelectronics as Assistant Engineer, participating in developing retinal prostheses.

Baisong Zhang interests include semiconductor technology and optoelectronics-related fields, as well as software/hardware development, bio-signal processing, and medical machine learning applications. More recentely, he is focusing on retinal prosthetics including decoding visual cortical signals, aiming to discover the complex encoding mechanisms of the visual system. He is committed to advancing visual coding technology and promoting the application of brain-computer interfaces (BCIs) to enhance vision quality.
