Chair Professor Mohamad Sawan attended the 2024 ZGC Forum and delivered a keynote speech

On April 26, 2024, Chair Professor Mohamad Sawan, Founding Director of CenBRAIN Neurotech Center of Excellence at Westlake University, attended the 2024 ZGC Forum Annual Conference and offered a Keynote talk. Also, he accepted interviews from CCTV 4 and Global Times, delving into the future development trends of brain-machine interfaces.

Last Friday, the 2024 ZGC Forum | Brain Computer interface Innovation Development Application Forum was held in Beijing. Chair Professor Mohamad Sawan, founding Director of CenBRAIN Neurotech Center of Excellence, attended and delivered a speech on the topic "Progress and Trends in Speech Decoding Research Based on Brain-Machine Interfaces."

Brain-computer interface (BCI), recognized as the main battlefield of future integration between life sciences and information technology, is a research direction of significant social value and strategic importance.

In China, the maturity of BCI technology continues to improve, making it a future industrial sector for cultivating new economic development momentum and creating competitive advantages. Its broad prospects for application hold important value in accelerating the formation of new productive forces.

Prof. Sawan, as an expert in the field, pointed out in an interview with the Global Times that China can provide a better environment and cooperation ecosystem for BCI research, as China has "an equation doesn't exist outside."

He noted that the BCI research needs to integrate multiple disciplines together, and universities, academies of science and engineering, institutes for medical engineering in China make collaboration more efficient and faster.

When speaking in which area that BCI technology can benefit more people, Dr. Sawan pointed out that some health condition cannot be recovered by drugs or surgery, and it may be applied with BCI equipment for providing economical solution, adding that China has the potential to take the lead in this sector.
