Professor Mohamad Sawan Shared Latest Research Advances in BCI Technology!

October 29, 2025

On October 25, 2025, Shanghai hosted the 2nd International Conference of Digital Medical Innovation and Application Development alongside the 7th Additive Manufacturing Medical Innovation and Development Conference. This conference gathered leading experts at the forefront of medical technology. Among the distinguished participants was Professor Mohamad Sawan, an internationally recognized pioneer in biomedical engineering, who joined government representatives, academics and industry leaders to explore the convergence of brain-computer interfaces (BCIs), artificial intelligence and healthcare.

As Chair Professor of Westlake University and Founding Director of CenBRAIN Neurotech Center of Excellence, Professor Sawan leads groundbreaking works in neuroelectronics, developing both wearable  and implantable BCIs that are reshaping neurological care.

In his keynote "Innovative Medical Devices for Efficient Diagnosis and Treatment of Brain Diseases," Professor Sawan presented significant advances in closed-loop neuromodulation systems. He detailed the research progress of his center in overcoming critical design challenges for miniaturized, low-power implantable devices, addressing fundamental requirements for security, reliability, self-powered operation and wireless telemetry.

Notably, Professor Sawan shared compelling clinical applications demonstrating the technology's potential in treating addiction, managing epilepsy, restoring vision and decoding neural signals for language processing. These developments represent promising new directions for diagnosing and treating neurological disorders, offering renewed hope for patients worldwide.
