Westlake University's Mohamad Sawan Center Attends the 48th IEEE EMBC Conference in Canada

On July 26th, Professor Mohamad Sawan led four members of the center to Toronto, Canada, to participate in the 48th Annual International Conference of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society (IEEE EMBC).

At this year‘s academic event, the CenBRAIN Neurotech Center at Westlake University achieved a 100% acceptance rate with all 6 submitted papers being accepted, including 2-lecture and 4-poster presentations.

Professor Mohamad Sawan served as an evaluation committee member of the best student papers' award, participated in a workshop about Brain-machine Interfaces, and joined a biding team as General Co-Chair to host the 51st edition of this prestigious conference in Montreal in July 2029. Our Ph.D. students Kang Xiong and Chengpeng Chai delivered oral presentations, other contributions of Research Assistant Professor Fahimeh Marvi, Postdoctoral Fellow Hongyong Zhang, Research Assistant Yuchen Sang, and Ph.D. student Xurong Gao were presented as posters.

Kang Xiong, attending his first international conference, shared that he was deeply impressed by the outstanding research presented by peers from around the world and realized how much more he has yet to learn. Having attended the conference last year, Chengpeng Chai returned this year not only to deliver an oral presentation but also to serve as co-chair of the Brain Functional Imaging session. He noted that the transition from presenter to session chair gave him a new and deeper understanding of academic conferences.

The accepted papers cover a range of research directions, including MEMS biosensing, exosome-based targeted drug delivery for brain cancer, optogenetic vision enhancement, MEG-compatible ultrasound transducers, contactless measurement of brain organoids, and fNIRS studies on sarcopenia.
